15-year-old geisha Cio-Cio-San gives up everything for her handsome husband, Lt. B.F. Pinkerton of the U.S. Navy --- her family, her heritage, herself. When he abandons her, she waits faithfully for three long years, never losing hope. But when Pinkerton returns with his American wife and demands the child he left her with, Madame Butterfly is forced to make a terrible choice. She can live without honor, or die with it. Puccini never wrote a more heartbreaking or gorgeous score. Filled with popular melodies like “Un bel dí” and the Flower Duet, you’ll soon see why Madama Butterfly was Mai Frances Doles’ favorite opera. It may well become yours, too!
