Kyle Chastulik
Bass Baritone
Kyle Chastulik is a bass-baritone from Chambersburg, PA returning to Spotlight on Opera for the second year. He’s currently a student in Vocal Performance under Dr. Joseph Baunoch at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Kyle has performed a vast array of vocal repertoire at IUP, Spotlight, and beyond. Notable opera and musical theatre roles at school include Judge Turpin (Sweeney Todd), Andrew Borden u/s (Lizzie Borden), and Fiorello (Il Barbiere di Siviglia). At Spotlight on Opera last year, Kyle performed the roles of Don Alfonso (Cosi Fan Tutte), Secret Police Agent (The Consul), and The King (Aida). As a concert artist, Kyle has performed as a featured soloist in the musical theatre revue “Broadway Extravaganza” with the IUP Symphony Orchestra and as the Bass Soloist in Handel’s “Messiah.”
Kyle has been a winner of several prizes at the National Association of Teachers Singing competition in both musical theatre and classical categories both at the district and regional level. Kyle won third place in the Delta Omicron Solo Competition at IUP in 2018. Kyle was honored to receive an Achievement Fund award from the Robert E Cook Honors College at IUP and a Delta Omicron Summer Music Scholarship to attend both Spotlight On Opera and the Druid City Opera Workshop in 2019.
Kyle’s Spring of 2020 includes performances of Leporello in a cyberpunk-themed production of “Don Giovanni” (Theater by the Grove/IUP) and a Junior Recital featuring works by WA Mozart, Robert Schumann, Francis Poulenc, and Gabriel Kahane, among others. He’s stoked to be returning to Spotlight this year as a Production Intern and many cups of Rhino Coffee will be had!
